Habemus Episcopum!
The Diocese of Nashville finally has a bishop! Benedict XVI has appointed Fr. David Choby (pictured here) to replace Bishop Kmiec, who was moved to Buffalo over a year ago.
Fr. Choby is a Nashville native and pastor at St. John Vianney parish, as well as Dean of the Northeast Deanery of the Nashville diocese. He studied at St. Ambrose College, CUA, and the Angelicum, and has a licentiate in Canon Law. He was also on the faculty of the Josephinum from 1984 to 1989.
That last fact concerns me, because the Josephinum, which is now a superb institution, had some problems in the 80's and was forced to fire a good number of professors following an Apostolic visit around that time. However, I am confident that His Holiness would not have elevated to the episcopate someone who had been ousted from a Pontifical seminary.
The Catholic News Agency article, here, doesn't say when the ordination is scheduled for, but hopefully it will some time when I'm not stuck up here in Ohio . . .

It's "Habemus Episcopum."
Hmmmm, I will trust "anonymous," although I don't see why it's accusative and not genetive ... but I never was very good at such things.
I attended St. Rose in Murfreesboro for 6 years and when my pastor and long-time friend Father Wiatt Funk died this past summer, Father Choby came to the parish and shepherded a hurting and bewildered congregation.
Father Choby was comforting and exhortive while he officiated at Father Wiatt's numerous memorials and funeral masses.
I remarked to my wife at the mass at the Cathedral that "Father Choby has a bishop's heart - he is a Prince of the Church."
Both of us thought that the next bishop would come from outside the diocese - but we are so happy that our Holy Father has chosen Father Choby.
I can't wait to be at that Installation Mass in a few months!
Nashville is truly a blessed diocese - during the interepiscopo it was a blessing to have The Most Reverend Bishop James Niedergeses to step in wherever needed to shepherd the Lord's flock.

honestly though, he could crack the eeniest weensiest bit of a smile...
or perhaps lower his hyper-arched brow a quarter inch or so
either way
You, of all people, ought to know that pictures do not tell you what a person is (or necessarily even looks) like, Jess.
If you saw the local news coverage of the announcement, he was all smiles, particularly the shots of him with the class at Overbrook.

haha I suppose you're right
O I'm sure he's a happy man in real life -- that pic just wasn't his best moment
