A Catholic Life has
an excellent post from yesterday on the Eucharist, headed by a sobering observation: that the Blessed Sacrament ought to reduce many people to dust. The Sacrament is such a spectacular thing that is so very difficult for us to remain cognizent of what It truly is -- and even more difficult for us to internalize and move towards any real understanding of that. The mother of my best friend in high school once remarked, "If we
really believed, we would never receive."

It is because we really believe that we can receive. We know the reality of the Holy Sacrament of the Altar, and we know that Christ Himself as deigned to give it to us freely. It is by His Mercy and Love that we may partake of His Body and Blood unto our salvation.
